According to Warcraft’s official Twitter, the cinematic Warcraft experience will be released on December 18, 2015.
After having a difficult pre-production, the film looks to finally be heading in the right direction.
Originally announced in 2006, a director (Sam Raimi) and screenwriter (Robert Rodat) were in place by 2009. However, both left the project in 2012, citing Blizzard’s ‘mismanagement’ as the primary reason.
The new project, directed by Moon and Source Code auteur Duncan Jones, seems to have everything green-lit and ready to go. Written by Blood Diamond scribe, Charles Leavitt, it’s rumoured to be based on Warcraft novel, The Last Guardian.
Production is due to start in early 2014, and a host of famous names have been linked with roles. Amongst the possible stars are Colin Farrell, Paula Patton and Anton Yelchin.
