Yelp is soon to become the UK’s best business reviews site with a more comprehensive list of user generated reviews thanks to it’s acquisition of Qype, a company that also compiled user reviews of businesses, in 2012. For the past year or so Yelp have been migrating all of Qype’s business data, photos, and reviews onto the Yelp UK website.
Users who now visit Qype will be redirected to the Yelp UK website which will not only contain the entire catalogue of reviews and listings found on Qype but also the massive amount of existing listings that Yelp already have. This could make Yelp the UK’s best user generated business review site with honest reviews from real people.
To date, the reviews, photos and business listings from Qype Ireland, Spain, Italy, France, Brazil and UK have all been successfully migrated to their Yelp country equivalent. The migration of the Qype content into Yelp in the six aforementioned countries follows a string of recent milestones and announcements for the company. Recently Yelp announced that it’s now possible to write reviews on a mobile phone on the go.
Elliot Adams, Communications Manager at Yelp comments: “Acquiring Qype and the migration of its rich content into Yelp is a landmark moment for us in the UK. The increase of in-depth reviews, number of businesses reviewed and the ensuing growth in user numbers bolsters Yelp’s position as the leading local business review site in Europe”.
It’ll be interesting to see how Yelp grows above already existing business review sites such as Google Reviews, Yahoo! Local Listings, and even Trip Advisor in some respects. I can only expect big things from the company.
