In the past week we saw the release of two of the biggest titles this year, Assassin’s Creed IV and Battlefield 4, unsurprisingly both of them debut in first and second respectively, knocking Batman Arkham Origins off of the top spot, all the way down to fifth place with FIFA 14 holding strong in third.
It’s no surprise that both ACIV and BF4 are battling for top spot, it’s also no surprise that ACIV is in first considering the game has had a three day head start over EA’s first person shooter. The news surrounding the two games however isn’t their debut in the charts, but the fact that both titles failed to match or beat their predecessor’s sales.
We suspect that this may have something to do with the imminent launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One which both games will also be launching on.
Elsewhere in the charts, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V is clinging onto fourth place, Football Manager 2014 debuts at sixth with WWE2K14 entering the charts in seventh. In the battle of the Pokémon, Pokémon Y has finally nudged down Pokémon X with both games at tenth and eleventh place respectively.
Still, a huge surprise for me, Minecraft Xbox 360 edition is still in the top 10 at eighth place with Skylanders SWAP FORCE in at ninth.
With Call of Duty: Ghosts landing on Tuesday this week, we’ll see whether the release of the next generation consoles has the same effect and whether Assassin’s Creed IV can stay at number one.
