Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games often have a little bit of a rough ride from time to time. The Dawn of War Series and Space Marine might see some success and praise, while the recent Space Hulk and Warhammer: Mark of Chaos didn’t enjoy the same caveats. After the recent announcement of a Warhammer 40,000 MMO Eternal Crusade to be released in 2015 (we hope) it seems that we are looking at another new 40K game dropping into our laps from high orbit.

On the 2nd of December Develop announced that Games Workshop had entered a partnership with Eutechnyx to develop a totally new title named Warhammer 40,000: Storm of Vengeance. If you’ve never heard of Eutechnyx then don’t worry, in all fairness neither have I but it turns out they make the Nascar games, which aren’t shabby at all. Storm of Vengeance is being reported as a ‘lane strategy’ game. Initially that made this reporter think “Oh great, another MOBA in the style of DOTA” but instead it sounds more like a Tower Defense title.

Eutechnyx have said you will play a company of 100 Space Marines defending against hordes of enemies. 100 doesn’t sound like much but in the 40k lore each Space Marine is a force to be reckoned with and in Relic’s underappreciated Space Marine Captain Titus is able to single handedly take out most of an Ork and Chaos Marine army alone. For the uninitiated, think about having 100 Master Chiefs against thousands of Elites and you’re kind of there.

In a statement, Eutechnyx CEO Darren Jobling said, “Storm of Vengeance sees Eutechnyx working with one of the most established brands in gaming. I am very excited that our new partnership with Games Workshop will allow us to bring the world of Warhammer 40,000 to dedicated fans around the world via our new mobile division.”

Storm of Vengeance is coming to PC and mobile devices sometime in Q1 2014. What they will do with this strategic lane game remains to be seen.Described as a “lane strategy game,” Storm of Vengeance is set during the sci-fi universe’s “planetary conflict on Piscina IV” and features Warhammer 40K characters Grand Master Belial and Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. Players control either 100 space marines or their Ork Waaagh enemies in overhead strategic conflict.
