It’s officially official. Infinity Ward and Activision have officially announced the Call of Duty: Onslaught DLC as well as releasing a new trailer and details surrounding the maps that it contains, including the fact that you’ll be turning into Michael Myres, if you’re brave enough.

The official announcement confirms the promotional poster for the DLC that was leaked a few days ago and will contain four multiplayer map, one multi-use bonus weapon, and the first of four Extinction episodes. So what maps can we expect?

Fog – A small to medium sized map set alongside the banks of a murky lake which is inspired heavily by classic horror films, from an eerie campsite, flickering TVs, torture chamber and seemingly abandoned structures, but there’s something else that’s a little creepy about this map, if you manage to find and complete a specific Field Order, you’ll become the embodiment of evil and don the persona of one of cinema’s most iconic horror characters, Michael Myers, complete with bloodied axe and spooky theme music you’ll be able to run rampant around the map hacking up bodies.

BayView – Going back to basic, this map is a close-quarters map set on a coastal Californian boardwalk complete with with seaside gift stores, an aquarium, and a moving tram which offers players fast-paced run-and-gun matches. This map also has a special field order too that allows players to call-in a deadly artillery strike from a Naval Destroyer anchored just offshore.

Containment – The third map in this DLC pack is another small-to-medium map set in a war-torn Mexican village, where the battle rages along both banks of the dried out riverbed.  The action in this compact map centres on the remains of a small bridge holding a hi-jacked truck filled with leaking radioactive material. Surrounded by a myriad of abandoned bars, cafes, a church and a pool hall, Containment also features elevated rooftop vantage points for players who prefer longer-range engagements.

Ignition – This is possibly going to be my most favourite map. Sticking with the “reimagining an old map” from previous Call of Duty games, Ignition is a remake of Scrapyard from Modern Warfare 2. This map packs a punch, it’s close quarters yet has long rage sights for those who, for some reason, decide to be a sniper on a fairly small map. Anyway, Scrapyard with a whole new look, I love it!

Next up is the weapon DLC, the Onslaught map pack contains a brand new dual-purpose weapon, the Maverick, acting both as an Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle the Maverick is outfitted with a lightweight wood stock this weapon can be selected in either the Assault or the Sniper Rifle class.  As an Assault Rifle the weapon’s fire rate becomes fully-automatic with high damage at a decent range and as a Sniper Rifle the “Maverick” sports an advanced scope and a semi-auto rate of fire.

Finally, the Extinction DLC and possibly the most exciting part to this season of Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC. Like with Treyarch’s Zombies mode, Infinity Ward are introducing more of a story into the game mode. Featuring back stories on characters, two new characters, and some all new never before seen aliens, Episode 1: Nightfall has a lot in store..

Set in a remote facility hidden deep within the Alaskan wilderness, the shadowy Nightfall Program has been researching the origins of the newly revealed alien threat. A small recon team of elite soldiers must infiltrate the site to retrieve intel and exterminate the hordes of savage creatures and along the way uncover a three-story tall terror unlike anything they’ve faced before.

The Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC is set to launch exclusively first to Xbox Live on January 28 and is expected to be priced at the usual £10/12.
