The quirky and mysterious survival game, Don’t Starve, recently made its way onto PlayStation 4 as a free title for PlayStation Plus subscribers after being available on Steam since April last year, during that time the game has passed one million players and developer Klei Entertainment is pondering a PlayStation Vita release.
You would probably assume that the one million milestone was achieved thanks to the game releasing on PlayStation 4 as the aforementioned promotion but speaking with EDGE Klei’s Corey Rollins revealed that, that wasn’t the case:
“Well before the end of 2013 we had over one million Don’t Starve players,” explained Rollins “With PlayStation Plus, beyond promotion of being a featured game, a lot of people who maybe wouldn’t have tried our game did [try it] and really enjoyed it. Some of those people went on to check out the PC version as well, and would maybe be interested in the upcoming DLC.”
He also spoke about bringing Don’t Starve to other platforms such as iOS and PlayStation Vita pointing out how many PlayStation 4 players have been using the Remote Play feature to play the game on their Vitas:
“We’re investigating a proper Vita version at the moment, but we’re not quite sure yet. Currently, a lot of people play Don’t Starve: Console Edition using the PS4′s remote play, and really enjoy it. So we’re looking into a proper Vita release.”
“As for iOS and mobile, that is something we’ve also been investigating and we think might work, but it’s not at the front of our development priorities right now. It’s still on our radar, though.”
Don’t Starve on mobile would be pretty awesome, I for one would definitely purchase a copy! What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below!
