Almost a year after launch EA have announced that an Offline Mode will be coming to the latest SimCity title which will allow everyone to finally play offline without the need to connect to EAs servers.
With the upcoming free Update 10 patch, SimCity will finally be able to escape the clutches of EA as the new single player mode will enable games to be saved locally instead of EA’s Cloud Servers.
“When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection.” says General Manager of the Maxis Emeryville studio, Patrick Buechner on the Maxis Blog. “We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then… testing, testing and more testing. ”
The Offline mode, Beuchner explained, means “big things” for Modders, enabling those who want to add items, fiddle with game code, and all other lovely Modder related things, without damaging the integrity of the online game. Maxis has also released a Modding Policy for anyone interested in creating new content themselves.
As for the online game, nothing will change, your cities will remain the same and all of the same content will exist. More information is expected to come as soon as the Offline Mode is perfected.
