In the first C:LoS, Gabriel had many ways to combat the evils that confronted him on his way to avenge the death of his wife. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 aims to build on the fighting and magic mechanics by giving players some nifty weaponry and skills to hold back the minions of Satan… The Void Sword is one such example.
Appearing in Dracula’s hand and looking like a slightly smaller version of a claymore, imbued with light magic seen in the original, the mystical blade has regenerative properties that heal as damage is dealt to the enemy.
This hopefully gets rid of the need to remember to hit a shoulder button at the last minute before your health bar drops to a millimeter of red, like I had while playing through the first game. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow had a great fighting and combo system but the controls could be mighty fiddly in fast paced battles.
Mercury Steam have highlighted that the fighting system in LoS2 has been updated and is more fluid, so you can hack away at monsters like a butcher on energy drink without worrying too much about joypad gymnastics.
Have a look at the video above for some footage of the Void Sword in action and stare in awe when Gabeula plays at He-Man as he invokes the power of Greyskull at around 0:46.
