We all expected today to be the day that Samsung unveil their next flagship device at their Unpacked event today and surprise, surprise here it is! as the various leaks suggested throughout the past couple of months, it’s dust and waterproof, contains a fingerprint scanner, and a massive 16 megapixel camera filled with a ton of new features.
So where to begin? The Samsung Galaxy S5 boasts a 5.1” FHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Inside it houses a 2.5GHz Quad-Core processor with 2GB RAM and all together is encased in a body that complies with IP67 which means it’s dust and water resistant!
The Samsung Galaxy S5 contains a 16 megapixel rear camera with an enhanced menu and user interface and the world’s fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds. The Galaxy S5 also has a brand new Selective Focus feature which allows you to focus on a single object whilst blurring out everything else creating that shallow depth of field that can only really be created with a special lens kit.
Moving around to the front of the Galaxy S5, this device has a fairly simple 2 megapixel snapper, pretty underwhelming compared to what’s on the back, but that’s not the main focus of this phones front, sure, the screen is pretty but hey! It has a fingerprint scanner! That’s what we’re all looking at.
The Finger Scanner, another new feature to the Samsung Galaxy S5 gives users a secure, biometric screen locking feature and a seamless and safe mobile payment experience.
As with most of Samsung’s Galaxy devices the Galaxy S5 is packed with features, one of the many new features is a Download Booster, an innovative Wi-Fi technology for boosting data speed by bonding Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously. The Galaxy S5 is also packed with a ton of fitness features found in the S Health 3.0, a much improved fitness suite that provides a more in-depth personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behavior, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a new, built-in heart rate monitor – when paired with the new Samsung Gear 2 or Gear 2 Neo.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is also much more stylish. Returning to the more squarer candy bar shape found on the first Galaxy Note, The Samsung Galaxy S5 also has a perforated, textured back that comes in a variety of different colours including charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold.
Oh, and unlike some of the rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S5 hasn’t dumped Android for Tizen, the Samsung Galaxy S comes with Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 out of the box. The device also comes with 16/32GB internal memory with microSD support for upto 64GB or 128GB depending on region, better grab yourself a SanDisk 128GB SDXC microSD card..
In terms of price and availability Samsung have revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available worldwide in April. Samsung have yet to reveal a price.
