Twitter users in Turkey are reporting that the service has been blocked.
Some users trying to access twitter to find out what Stephen Fry has said today are being redirected to a statement by Turkey’s telecommunications regulator which is citing a court order to apply something they’re calling ‘protection measures’ to the website.
This is coming not longer after Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan promise that he would “wipe out Twitter” following damaging allegations of corruption, aimed at his inner circle through the website.
Earlier on thursday, Mr Ergodan, who’s clearly just the sort of nutter who we’d want leading a country, had this to say:
“I don’t care what the international community says at all. Everyone will see the power of the Turkish Republic.”
Twitter has so far made no public comment on the issue or offered any advice to its ten million users in the country.
