Guess What? Almost 37% of Steam Purchases are Never Played!

As someone with a Steam account full of unplayed games that I have purchased on a whim thanks to the iconic Steam Sales it comes as no surprise that 36.9% of Steam purchases are never played.

According to a recent report by Ars Technica, who took the time to dive into Valve’s Steam service to find the facts, those of us who frequently purchase games only really play 63.1% of them, with a further 17% of those games getting played for an hour or less.

As for the most popular game in terms of ownership on Steam, well, you guessed it, Valve’s free-to-play MOBA; DOTA 2. with a whopping 25.93 million copies downloaded and registered to various Steam accounts. It’ll also come as no surprise that the top 10 most registered games on Steam were Valve titles, with Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim being the first third party title which sits at number 14.

That all changes though when Ars actually looked at games which have logged the most hours played per user, with Sega’s Football Manager coming out on top followed by Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, Assassin’s Creed IV and Dragon Age: Origins.

Ars Technica’s discoveries make for a pretty interesting read so if you want to know the full story, head to the source link below.
