Google Accidentally Lists the Nest Learning Thermostat on Google Play.

Earlier this year Google purchased Nest, the company behind the Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Protect Smoke Detector, for around $3.2 billion. Since then Google hasn’t really done a lot with the company, suggesting a lot of work is going on behind the scenes, we have however had a whiff of Nests products on Google Play which would likely boost sales a hell of a lot.

First spotted by Droid-Life, “Nest Learning Thermostat” was briefly listed on Google’s support page for country availability, the listing suggested that it was available in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, but when clicked-through to purchase, Droid-Life were just lead to the product page of the Moto G Google Play Edition.

This could mean a number of things, all of which are speculation right now. Google could be planning to sell the Nest Learning Thermostat through Google Play and the support page was launched a little prematurely, the support page update could have been made in error with Google having no intentions of selling the device via Google Play, or Google is gearing up to sell the whole range of Nest products on Google Play and have the support placeholder in place for when the Nest Protect Smoke Detector is ready to be sold through Google’s Play Store.

Until it officially pops up, don’t get your hopes up. You can however purchase Nest products from their website as well as various retailers also listed on the company’s website.

What a fascinating article. Thanks for letting me know that I can purchase a Nest through the Nest website. Aaron obviously has his finger on the pulse of Silicon Valley with this type of inside information. Perhaps his next story can provide details on how to purchase items from Amazon.
