Popular comics reader app ComiXology has been purchased by everyone’s favourite online super store, Amazon. ComiXology announced the aquisition on their block late yesterday evening.
Amazon have now added the popular Comic app to its roster, along side LoveFilm, with hints that the company will integrate ComiXology’s unique Guide View technology and ever growing library of comics into their fleet of Kindle devices. Kindle’s can already support comics in their E-reader format though many (including myself) have criticized the systems support as being clunky and often not working correctly.
“ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms,” said David Steinberger, co-founder and CEO of comiXology. “There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels.”
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Subject to various closing conditions, the acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014.
Will it be a good thing? How it will the acquisition effect the app? I guess this is a fine place to say:
