March 28th 2014 in a surprisingly warm hall in Birmingham was the first time Flockers was given to the world to play. Since then it’s been smuggled into Team 17’s woolen jumper and neither hide nor hoof has been seen. That it until now as today, Team 17 officially announce that their puzzle/strategy title where you move members of the Ovis Aries genus through fiendish obstacle courses will be coming to Steam’s Early Access program on May the 6th.
Purchasing Flockers when it hits Early Access will net you more than just a few levels of shear (get it?! HA) livestock liberation. Not only are they herding in Leader-boards and a Star system to encourage you to perfect each level, you’ll be given access to The Art of Flockers showing the process of each graphical element from the concept stages to full production. If that’s not enough for you then how about a discount on the game’s final price and access to the Flockers soundtrack which is a “juxtaposition of the flock’s light-hearted naivety set against a backdrop of dark foreboding” .
What will probably be most interesting to those of us who spent an inordinate amount of time playing games in the same vein as this one – here’s looking at you Lemmings – is the addition of a “Meat Maker” editing tool. It’s not a guide to dissecting a small fluffy animal or some sort of (mutton) pie chart though. Instead the tool will allow players to pour all their sadistic tendencies towards the woolen wannabe escapees in the creation of levels not only for themselves, but for others to play via the Steam Workshop. These user created levels will add to the already standing 25 courses available to play when Flockers hits Early Access in the coming days.
