Last month Google finally unveiled plans to release the Chromecast here in Europe following a successful launch in the US last year. So far the tiny streaming dongle is doing really well, so well UK retailer Currys/PC World reported that they sold a Chromecast every 4.5 seconds on launch day. Wow!
Google’s Chromecast is a tiny HDMI dongle that enables you to stream your favourite subscription and streaming services to your HDMI capable TV’s turning any old box into an internet ready streaming powerhouse. Priced at £30 in the UK what you get for your dollar is well worth it.
Aside from streaming Google Play Music and Movies, you can stream YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and even Viki if you’re a fan of Korean Drama and the occasional Anime. Developers are also hard at work creating apps that stream to the Chromecast like the AllCast app which lets you stream almost anything form your Android device to your Chromecast.
Google are yet to release official numbers of both US sales and European sales, but Currys/PC World reported that they sold a Cromecast every 4.5 seconds on launch day and Norway’s Elkjøp retail chain also reported strong sales saying that they were ordering a second batch of 40,000 units to meet up with demand for the device.
