After seeing remarkable success on Facebook (5.7 million players since July 2013), France-based developer Kobojo have brought their hit RPG Mutants: Genetic Gladiators to iOS, Android and Amazon. That means that you’re going to be able to play it on your personal tablet or smartphone without having to be sat online on Facebook. As Kobojo’s first step into the RPG market they have some pretty lofty goals and from the amount of players you could say they’ve already seen their goals achieved.

Mutants: Genetic Gladiators offers players the opportunity to discover, grow and lead mutants (including Valkyries, Cerberus and Robots among others) into 3 vs 3 battles in futuristic arenas. At its core though is a gene combination system to create more powerful hybrid fighters to add to the players team. Think of it as a sort of genetic amalgamation of Pokemon and Impossible Creatures. It’s not exactly short on content either, with more than 400 different gladiators that players are able to create.

Unlike some of its competitors, you aren’t forced into fighting against other players all the time. There is of course the capacity to do this but Mutants: Genetic Gladiators also offers a “Player vs Machine” mode where you battle against AI opponents. Should you want to play against other players though you can hitch up to the “asynchronous” mode which also lets you play at home on your tablet then engage in some not so friendly genetic gladiatorial combat while you’re out in the real world buying milk.

Like most mobile games nowadays, Mutants: Genetic Gladiators is monetized through in-app purchases but from a quick look at the Google Play Store reviews, they do not stand as a roadblock to casual gameplay. At the moment there are some reports online of force closing issues during gameplay on Android but since it only released for the OS in the past few days it can be assumed these will be ironed out soon.
