According to sources familiar with the matter, Nokia’s first Windows 8.1 smartphone to be released following the acquisition by Microsoft is a device currently codenamed ‘Superman’ and it’s set to be the selfie smartphone you’ve been looking for because it’ll house a five megapizel front facing camera.
Nokia have always saved their awesome camera tech for the back of their devices with handsets such as the Nokia Lumia 1520 that houses a whopping 20 megapixel snapper on the back. Their upcoming smartphone however, currently codenamed ‘Superman’ is set to bring Nokia’s awesome camera tech around the front for those that like to snap selfies.
Speaking with The Verge, sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have given a few details on this currently unannounced device, one of which is that it’ll have a 5 megapixel snapper on the front instead of the standard 1 megapixel camera that most Nokia fans are used to. This would put the Nokia ‘Superman’ up there with the HTC One M8 which also has a 5 megapixel front snapper.
The Verge have also learned that the ‘Superman’ will be a “4.7-inch mid-range handset that’s expected to debut towards the end of the year.” The also believe that following Nokia’s trend of releasing devices along side Windows Phone updates, the Windows 8.1 updates will be released along with new handsets which will then be rolled out across existing devices.
The first Windows 8.1 update is expected in July, with the second to launch along side the Nokia ‘Superman’ sources have said, there’s currently no date mentioned for the second update.
