Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS Steps it Up!

Last night’s Nintendo Direct was so packed, we had to split it into four posts!

During last nights Nintendo Direct event a bunch of new assist trophies have been revealed, including Skull Kid, Mother Brain, Midna, Dark Samus, Chain Chomp and even Wario-Ware’s Ashley. Several new items were also included, such as the Bombchu, Back Shield, Beetle (from LoZ Skyward Sword), Fairy Bottle, Ore club, Hocotate Bomb, Rocket Belt and even a new and improved Beam Sword.

The 3DS version was announced to have an exclusive gamemode called Smash Run, which looks very similar to Brawl’s Subspace Emissiary mode but a lot faster paced, taking powerup elements from Kirby Air Ride’s City Trial mode. The mode is playable by up to four players, and includes exploration, fighting generic opponents (such as koopas, Chandelures and plenty more) and powerups, culminating in the four players using their gained powerups to duke it out and see who did the best during the exploration.

Masahiro Sakurai, director and creator of Smash Bros, hosted the Nintendo Direct and proudly announced that both games will have the same lineup of characters, but will feature a mixture of stages, some exclusive to their respective consoles.

The 3DS version of the game will be released in Summer 2014, with the Wii U iteration blasting onto our TV screens (and gamepad!) in Winter 2014.

So now we wait, with rustled minds and hyped feelings…
