Another game, another resolution war it seems. This time it is the turn of RedLynx studio’s upcoming Trails Fusion who’s resolution is being called into question. The news broke yesterday that Trials Fusion on the Xbox One will run with a resolution of 900p while the PS4 version will run in 1080p. RedLynxs also announced that Trials Fusion will run at 60 frames-per-second on both consoles. Whether or not this is going to have any easily noticeable impact on the games visuals however remains to be seen.
Looking at this from a neutral standpoint, both versions are going to undoubtedly look incredible and will run at a smooth framerate which for a game like Trials is all that’s needed. Framerate dips and screen tearing are going to be critical for the act of enjoying Trials Fusion than a lower visual resolution. Only the most astute of users are going to be able to notice these differences anyway. The best feature of the side-racing motocross game has always been the competitive gameplay against friends on the leaderboards and the crazy but intelligent course designs.
What may be forgotten from this information is that this debut of the series on Sony consoles is a big step in getting everyone playing the games they want. For Redlynx to waltz into the PS4 development scene and be able to get their game running at 1080p and 60 frames per second is an achievement in itself. Sadly we all know this is going to end up being more ammunition in the never-ending console wars. It will be interesting to see the outcome of sales across all four platforms (it’s coming to PC and Xbox 360 as well) as what was an Xbox stalwart goes fully cross-platform.
Trials Fusion is coming to the Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox 360 on the 16th of April for all formats in the UK and will have a season pass. Want to get a look at gameplay now? Check out the preview from n3rdabl3 here.
