Samsung Gear Live

If you’ve been pining over Android Wear since its announcement in March you’ll be happy to hear that the wait is finally over (if you live in the US). As of Today you can pre-order the LG G Watch, and the just announced Samsung Gear Live on the Play Store. The Gear Live will be priced at $199.99 and as of July 7, will be available in Best Buy stores and online. As for the LG G watch, there’s no word on when it will ship, and pricing hasn’t been confirmed either, they did however tell PCAdvisor that it would cost no more than £180 ($305), vague yes, but it does give you some idea of where the price point may land.

Let’s talk specifications:

The Samsung Gear Live, which was announced by Google’s Sundar Pichai at Google I/O earlier this evening, is made up of a 1.63″ super AMOLED display and will feature a heart rate sensor. It’s dust and water resistant and it will be able to work with any Android phone running version 4.3 or higher. The only thing it’s really lacking is a camera.

The LG G watch has a 1.65″ display, so is slightly bigger than the Gear Live, it is also dust and water resistant and powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor.

It’s important to talk about battery life with these watches, the LG G has a 400mAh battery built-in which LG claim will last the entire day on a single charge which is pretty incredible as the screen of the LG G is ‘Always-On’ which would surely be a battery drainer? As for the Gear Live, it has a 300mAh battery built in, Samsung are also saying the battery will last all day. Both watches have 4GB of built in memory.

If neither of these smart watches float your boat and you’re one of many that are holding out for what Motorola are bringing to the party, the Moto 360 will be available later this Summer.

We will update this post with the UK release dates when we have them, until then tell us; which smart watch are you going to be putting on your wrist and why?
