I hate the term eSport, gaming isn’t a sport and shouldn’t be thought of that way. Maybe because I have an old fashioned way of thinking, because to me, sport is something you do that’s physically exerting, that involves exercise, and at least some level of training, not sitting in a chair with a controller in your hand screaming profanities at a screen. Anyway, I could go on about this for hours, lets get to the news!
It looks like Ubisoft might be diving head first into eSports, but not with competitive Assassin’s Creed, or Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Phantom. Nope, they’re bringing Just Dance to the table. That’s right, an actual form of exercise will finally be featured in the eSporting scene!
Ubisoft have just completed a deal with The Electronic Sports World Cup, who are one of the biggest eSports organisers, to bring the recently announced Just Dance 2015 become part of the ESWC roster.
“For the 11th edition of the ESWC, we are very proud to widen the definition of eSport with Ubisoft. Competitive gaming has to welcome all kind of players, has to be developed in partnership with the games publishers, and has to showcase the most advanced technologies which link the body to the game. Just Dance is for ESWC the perfect medium to reach those goals”, said Matthieu Dallon, founder of the ESWC.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to become the Just Dance world champion qualifiers for the Just Dance World Cup will take place between June 24 and September 21 both online and around the world at various gaming events.
The competition is open to anyone, so even your nan can take part, and there are three ways to qualify:
- On World Dance Floor, the online multiplayer mode in Just Dance 2014 which allows players to compete against each other’s performances. Qualifying sessions are scheduled for July 13th, July 20th, July 27th, August 3rd, August 31st, September 7th, September 14th and September 21st.
- Through Just Dance TV players can submit their best dance recording through the in-game Autodance feature.
- In-person at specific ESWC qualifier events and Ubisoft events to be communicated at a later date.
If you qualify to be one of the twenty Just Dance players, you’ll be jetted off to the Paris Games Week to compete in the Grand Final of the Just Dance World Cup from October 30 to November 1, 2014. During this Final dance-off, players performances will be appraised on score and style of the dance by a currenty-unnanounced jury and submitted to online voting.
Details of the jury and the prizes that’ll be awarded to finalists will be announced soon.
