For the past two years LG have been the company that Google has turned to, to manufacture their past few iterations of the Nexus phone. Both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 have both been absolutely stand-out phones, but it looks like that trend might be coming to an end. With rumours that Android are working on something called Android Silver, LG spokesperson Ken Hong saying LG may not be making the next Nexus device, and Google I/O just around the corner, it’s looking unlikely that LG will be making the next Nexus device.
When asked whether LG will be making the next Nexus smartphone, tipped to be called the Nexus 6, LG’s Communications Director Ken Hong said: “I know at least not yet. Normally, we were informed. That can mean two things. Either I got ignored, or we simply won’t be making [the Nexus 6],” he joked.
That doesn’t mean a Nexus device, or even the first Project Silver device won’t be coming out this year, just that LG may not be the manufacturers behind it. It seems likely too that with Google I/O around the corner, they’d already have a manufacturer on board with the next device.
Google I/O begins next week on June 25 where we’re expecting to not only see a new Nexus smartphone, but also the appearance of a new tablet, presumably the Nexus 8 which is tipped to be made by HTC.
