It looks like Mario Kart 8 isn’t the only thing driving up the wall as the game has driven Wii U hardware sales in the UK up by a whopping 666% finally putting Nintendo’s home console in a more positive light after spending the last two years on the ropes..
Mario Kart 8 launched on the Wii U in the UK on May 30 and since then has helped shift Wii U consoles exponentially. CVG reports that retail monitor Chart-Track says these Wii U sales managed to outperform the console’s debut in 2012, previously its highest selling point, which sounds impressive, but does make you realise how bad the Wii U has been doing over the past couple of years.
Equally as impressive Mario Kart 8 has also become the series’ second strongest debut, which comes close behind the 3DS’s Mario Kart 7. So not only did Mario Kart 8 boost sales of the Wii U, it managed to almost become the highest selling debut in the series’ even on a struggling console.
Here’s to the future of the Wii U looking a bit brighter.
