Yesterday a stream of the E3 demo for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was released for those that didn’t get a chance to see it at the conference. The 30 minutes of gameplay come straight from a PS4 running at 1080p and 60 FPS. The demo picks up nine years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and sees a recovered Big Boss returning to the field in order to rescue Miller.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain follows Big Boss aka Venom Snake decent in to hell with the other members of the Diamond Dogs. The games open world setting of Afghanistan is said to be about 200 time larger than Ground Zeroes. I don’t think we will be hearing complaints about this one being too small.
The Phantom Pain’s will see the return of some familiar faces while introducing new characters, like the sniper Quiet and her highly controversial costume design. Hideo Kojima caused a stir when she was first revealed after tweeting about the upcoming release of the her CG data for cosplayers
“I’ve been ordering to Yoji to make the character more erotic, and he did it well.”
Most of the backlash came because of his use of the word erotic, although since then he has said
“I know there’s people concerning about “Quiet” but don’t worry. I created her character as an antithesis to the women characters appeared in the past fighting game who are excessively exposed. “Quiet” who doesn’t have a word will be teased in the story as well. But once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds.”
There has been speculation that Quiet will have some sort of genetic camouflage, so her lack of clothes will help her blend in with her background easier.
The gameplay demo shows of the mission that originally appeared in the games E3 2013 trailer as well as real time horse defecation, one of the most popular features at this years E3.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is set for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One sometime during 2015. Players who bought the prolog Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will receive some exclusive DLC when the game is finally released.
