Who’da Thunkit? The console editions of the pixelated, open world, sandbox game, Minecraft, have completely outsold the original PC edition of the game, which isn’t really surprising considering the Xbox 360 edition of the game has consistently remained in the top 10 charts for some time now, and has recently been joined by the PlayStation 3 version.
Mojang’s Patrick Geuder revealed an even bigger milestone via Twitter yesterday tweeting that Minecraft sales have surpassed the 54 million mark; That’s including the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhones, iPads, and Android versions. And as I mentioned before, both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions have remained in the UK charts for some time, and that just accounts for physical sales, not digital downloads.
This Autumn will see the release of the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Xbox One editions of the game which allow people to transfer their worlds over to the latest-gen editions, so chances are, come Autumn, that 54 million sales is going to shoot up.
