I’m sure there are many games on peoples lists that certain publishers didn’t show or even mention at E3 this year, Dead Space was certainly one of them, but Visceral, the developers behind the space-themed survival horror game, do have a lot on their plates at the moment with Star Wars: Battlefront, and of course, Battlefield Hardline, but that doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about the beloved franchise promising that there’ll “absolutely” be another game in the future.
Speaking with Polygon EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund explained that Visceral are currently hard at work making the games they want to work on right now, and that Dead Space certainly hasn’t been forgotten, but right now the developers minds are elsewhere.
“To the largest extent we can, we want to get the game teams to work on the things they want to work on themselves,” he said. “There’s an incredible amount of enthusiasm over Hardline and the Star Wars game at Visceral. Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation.”
Before we all start gleefully cheering that we’ll be able to once again shit ourselves in space, this is by far a confirmation that a game is in development. “Now, I’m not announcing a Dead Space game. We’re not building one just to be very clear, but I’m saying is there an opportunity or possibility to do one in the future? Absolutely.”
