Could you imagine the possibilities two Wii U Gamepads on one system could offer? No? Me neither, but the question is on some peoples minds. Will the Wii U ever support two GamePads? The answer is pretty much a “yes” but not right now.
Speaking with IGN, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto says that two GamePads on the Wii U is definitely something Nintendo have been thinking about, but it’s not a priority right now.
“Certainly as we’ve been working on Wii U, I think we’re at a point where we don’t feel it’s realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet,” said Miyamoto. “We’re still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that’s where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term.”
It’s not because of technical strains either, as Miyamoto explained. “From a technical standpoint, I think if we decided to pursue that, technically we would be able to and we can perform system updates that would allow for that.”
It’s nice to see that Nintendo are still thinking outside the box, yet still have their priorities right with the Wii U. I mean, who’s going to shell out around £100 for a second GamePad when the console itself is still struggling to make waves.
