Managing to acquire all of the regions Gym Badges in Pokémon games is definitely an achievement in its own right, but what about actually becoming the Gym Leader yourself? That’s something Pokémon games have always lacked. Sure most Gym Leaders remain in a suspended state until you manage to defeat the goons blocking the way and eventually battle them, but I want to be a feared Gym Leader too! In the upcoming Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire that dream becomes a reality thanks to the ability to have your own super-secret base!
The Pokémon Company announced today that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire players will be able to create their very own Secret Base! Your secret base becomes your very own customisable area that will allow you show off how unique you are to the world, but that’s not all. Sure, other people can come and visit your Secret Base but not before they’ve encountered and overcome a series of traps and mazes deterring any unwanted guests.
You can even set up Pokémon battle rules tailor made to your strengths transforming your Secret Base into your very own Pokémon Gym! You can share your Secret Base with the world either via the StreetPass functionality in the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, or for those who like to camp out in their room and play Pokémon, share a QR code online for others to visit your Secret Base with ease.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, as you can invite people to become Secret Pals who can easily come and go out of your Secret Base, but again, that’s not all! Secret Pals have special skills that can support you in your adventure by sharing decorations, making a Pokémon Egg hatch faster, or even levelling up a Pokémon by one! And the more Secret Pals you have, the more skills you’ll have at your disposal!
Just like Pokémon Gyms, each Secret Base has a flag that can be acquired once the owner has been defeated, this can be found on the players Secret PC found in every Secret Base, and the more flags you collect the higher the rank earned, which brings rewards like improving the skills of a player’s Secret Pals.
Holy hell, this sounds bloody awesome! I can’t wait to get my hands on Pokémon Omega Ruby! One question I do have, however, is how do players acquire items and furniture to decorate their secret base? There’s definitely more news to come surrounding this awesome feature.
Both Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire launch on November 28 for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.
