Holy Ham! Sherlock is returning to our TV screens in a one-off special which will then be followed by a fourth season! The BBC teased a Sherlock announcement last night saying that at 2:21 UK time, we’ll be getting a “big” Sherlock announcement. Well, you can’t get bigger than that, right?
The BBC announced via Twitter today that they’ll begin shooting the Sherlock special in January 2015 with filming of the fourth season expected later next year too. Right now we have no details exactly when Sherlock and Watson will be making the return on our screens but the BBC revealed that “we’re ready to unleash the most shocking and surprising series of Sherlock yet. The only thing to expect is the unexpected…”
As you can expect, us Sherlock fans are going wild!
“A special, plus a new series of three episodes – it’s a record-breaking run!” series creator Steven Moffat said in a statement. “Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…”
Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as the hilarious, yet serious, Doctor Watson. Oh, and there’s hints that Andrew Scott may be returning as Moriarty..
The BBC has been constantly keeping us on our toes with Sherlock’s release schedule with series’ coming around two years apart, if this latest shooting news is anything to go by Sherlock remains on its fairly slow schedule and will deliver the fourth season in 2016.
