For those hoping to name their Guardian something bad-ass in the upcoming MMO shooter from Bungie you better hope that your PSN or GamerTag is something as such, because that’ll be what your Guardian will be called and the only way to change it is by changing your PSN or Gamertag. So if you’re one of the many people with names such as xX_AssHat_Xx or oO-SNiPEZ_FUZiON-Oo you’re going to be stuck with that unless you pay to change it, of course.

It comes as no real surprise that a multiplayer focused game will be using your PlayStation PSN or Xbox Live GamerTag as the name of your character, but apparently there’s a few people out there who are. In the latest Destiny blog update Deej answers some community questions, one of which was from “F12” who asked whether you can name your character in Destiny:

“You are your character in Destiny. In your case, your Guardian will be named F12. If you want your name to be more colorful or personal (i.e. NinjaSniper420, Titan Nick, Robert Paulson) you need to change your identity at the source,” answers Deej. “Our hope is that you have an identity in the game that’s meaningful to you, and that new friends can track you from your favorite Destiny forum to a rendezvous in orbit over your favorite destination.”

Now, there’s some good news and some bad news here. If you’re on either of the Xbox platforms, you’ll easily be able to change your GamerTag for as little as £6 or there abouts. If you’re one of the many people on PlayStation platforms, the platform Bungie is heavily promoting the game for, you can’t actually change your PSN, so if you’re one of the many AssHat’s out there, you’re stuck being an AssHat throughout Destiny – unless you create an entirely new account of course.
