The flagship franchise from Ubisoft has to be Assassin’s Creed, in mine and many other (correct) opinions anyway. And since it’s first release in 2007 Ubisoft Montreal have been the studio behind our favourite History lesson’s. Things have changed though. It has been confirmed on the Ubisoft Blog that Ubisoft Quebec will be taking over on the next Assassin’s Creed title.
I would imagine for Ubisoft Montreal it’ll be like watching your grown child leaving home to go live somewhere else. Albeit that the place it’s now going to live has played a huge part in its life already. Yes, Ubisoft Quebec are no strangers to the Assassin’s, they’ve given a helping hand on previous titles such as Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed 3, The Tyranny of King Washington DLC and Assassin’s Creed 4’s DLC, Freedom Cry. So they’re more than capable. Nicolas Rioux, the managing director at Quebec said “The team is ready for the next big step”.
When asked about the franchise being handed over a spokesperson for the company told GameIndustry International “Montreal will continue to be lead studio for other AC titles. And Montreal and Quebec will continue to collaborate with each other and with other Ubisoft studios – that’s been key for making sure each Assassin’s Creed title offers something new and creative for players”
