JRPG’s never cease to surprise me, whether it’s a game dedicated to finding the perfect “mate,” or working hard achieve fame for a physical and heavy chested representation of a games console, these games always seem to throw a curve ball at me. The latest one to surprise me is Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed which NIS America has revealed will be coming to Europe on October 10. In this game, you play as a “walking undead” looking for vampires called “Synthister’s” and to defeat them, you’ve gotta undress them…
Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed tells the story of Nanashi, a young lad who was lured into a trap by the promise of rare character goods and transformed into one of the walking undead. Thankfully he was ‘saved’ by the bloody kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku, who pairs up with Nanashi to uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akihabara, Tokyo’s popular ”Electric Town” district, from being overrun by violent, antisocial energy vampires.
Shizuki, Nanashi, and his friends create an organization, unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” aim to take to the virtual streets of Akihabara in the search for Synthisters with the help of an in-game smartphone app, then once discovered, engage in battle. This is where the fun part comes in. In order to defeat the Synthister’s the player must strip them of their clothing to expose their skin to sunlight.
Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed boasts a unique combat system, a gorgeous open-world environment based off of one of Japan’s iconic districts, common anime and video game tropes, and a narrative oozing with social satire and subtle nods to Japanese pop culture. Just in case you missed it, above is the E3 trailer for the game which looks really good, and surprisingly it’s not just female characters being drop kicked down to their underpants!
Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed is set to launch in Europe on October 10 for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.
