Earlier this week Xiaomi unveiled their highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi 4, the successor to the Mi 3, and oh boy it’s a good looking device. Despite taking obvious cues from the iPhone 5S, the Mi 4 comes packed with features all crammed into a stainless steel frame coated with a nano-coating to deter finger-prints and liquids. According to Xiaomi it’s their fastest and best looking device to date.
As we all expected, in a press event held on July 22 the Chinese company unveiled the new flagship device along with a cut-price smart-band, but we’ll get to that later. The Mi 4 comes with a flat 5-inch 1080p display which is powered by 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM, in terms of storage you can choose from either16GB/64GB of internal storage, and for pictures you can expect to take gorgeous snaps with the 13MP f/1.8 main camera, and an 8MP front facing camera, finally the device comes complete with LTE – something we’ve all been waiting for and 802.11ac WiFi plus a 3,080mAh battery. The device also comes packed with an Infra Red blaster to control your TV.
In terms of pricing, as you might expect with past Xiaomi devices, the Mi4 is super affordable, if you live in China that is. The device will be priced at CN¥1,999 which is roughly $320 for the 16GB version, and CN¥2,499, about $400 for the 64GB version both prices are off-contract, of course. There’s just one issue for those of us pining over this gorgeous device, it’s unlikely to land outside of China just yet. The Mi 4 will be available for pre-ordering in China as early as July 29th – there’s no word yet when the device will ship.
Finally for those looking for a bit of added customisation, those looking to grab a Mi4 can choose from a variety of swappable plastic back covers that come in various designs such as various wooden designs, marble designs, and if you’re really into cow-print, that too.
If that wasn’t enough, Xiaomi also unveiled a brand new smart band, the Mi Band, which not only tracks fitness and sleep patterns, it can also be used to unlock your Xiaomi device whenever it’s nearby. What’s more the device includes a Sleep-cycle smart alarm, at least 30 days of use, IP67 water resistance, and a choice of stylish band options. Even better news, it costs as little as $12. Yep, you read that right, all of that functionality for $12. No word on availability just yet, but like with the Mi 4, expect it to roll out in China first.
