Instagram have just launched a brand new app on the iTunes app store, and no, it’s not the recently revealed Bolt messaging app, it’s something completely different: Hyperlapse. Hyperlapse allows you to simply and easily create timelapse videos without the need for any overly expensive equipment, all you need is an iPhone with enough battery and memory, and plenty of time and patience.
Timelapse videos often require some impressive bits of kit and editing software in order to create the desired effect, unfortunately not everyone has access to kit such as this so thankfully Instagram has just created a brand new app which takes video sharing to a whole new level. The Hyperlapse app is entirely free to use and requires no account in order to begin recording timelapse videos, all you do is download the app, start recording and the app will do all of the rest for you.
Of course there are a few custimisation options such as how quick the timelapse plays through and of course some image stabilisation is also applied. From there you just save the timelapse video to your camera roll and then share across every social media channel you could ever think of.
“From documenting your whole commute in seconds or the preparation of your dinner from start to finish, to capturing an entire sunset as it unfolds, we’re thrilled about the creative possibilities Hyperlapse unlocks,” Instagram said in a blog post announcing its new app.
The app is available right now for iOS, unfortunately there’s nothing for Android yet, but there’s a good reason for this. In a statement given to Wired earlier this week, Instagram says Google will have to make some changes to the camera and gyroscope APIs on Android before Instagram’s Hyperlapse becomes compatible with the various Android devices. So it doesn’t mean that it’ll never come, but just like usual the ship will have well and truly sailed by time Android actually gets it.
