It’s still happening, basically. It’s a bit like The Last Guardian to be honest – we don’t really know a lot, we haven’t seen anything, which means so far it’s all just words words words. Words are alright, but some more concept art, screenshots or even just a photo of a bit of PR material would really get the message home that something’s happening.
Instead, all we’ve got to go on at the moment is a bit of gristle from The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently Andres Muschietti (director – Mama) will be taking the reins as director, and his sister Barbara Muschietti will be joining him in a shared production role with Kevin Misher.
There are more names, like Seth Lochhead (co-penned Hanna) who will be writing the screenplay under Muschietti’s gaze, and Michael De Luca (The Social Network) and Andrea Giannetti (A Knights Tale) will be overseeing the project.
I’m not really sure how to feel about all of this. Sure, it would be grand to have a film version of Shadow of the Colossus, but (and I’m going to be honest here) I recognise none of those names, and most of the films they’ve worked are the kinds of things I’d avoid at the local cinema. Also, I don’t think I’ve seen any film adaptations of video games – it’s universally acknowledged that they don’t tend to do well…
Hope might help, perhaps. I’ll pray for a good Shadow of Colossus film. Maybe it’ll happen. Maybe not. We’ll wait and see.
