Amazon have today launched their very own set-top-box, the Amazon Fire TV, in the UK allowing customers to make the most of their Amazon Prime Video subscription – among other things, on the big screen. The device launched in the US in April pretty soon after it was announced, but has been taking its sweet time to arrive on UK shores.
Available to purchase right now for £79, the Amazon Fire TV not only lets you stream Amazon Instant Video Movies and TV shows, but also lets you stream music and download and play mobile games on your TV. Surprisingly the Fire TV also launches with a handful of supported apps too such as Netflix, YouTube, Sky News, Vevo and Spotify, with other apps such as ITV Player and Demand 5 set to follow later.
As for gaming, the console comes with a number of games which can be downloaded and played on the Fire TV such as Minecraft, The Walking Dead, Grand Theft Autos III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Though you will be required to purchase the additional game controller which has also launched today for £34.99.
The Amazon Fire TV works like a traditional set-top-box in that you’ll receive a little remote to control the device which also includes some pretty awesome voice control capabilities using a microphone in the controller itself allowing you to search for things without leaving the comfort of your sofa.
You can purchase the Amazon Fire TV directly from Amazon UK.
