One of my first games consoles was the NES and on that, I of course had the split cartridge which featured Super Mario and Duck Hunt, but I also had Excitebike, probably one of the first racing games that I played which featured a track creator that allowed me to create a series of stupid completely impossible tracks, it was also my first introduction to gaming vigilantism as I discovered clipping the front tire of an opponent’s bike with the back tyre sent them flying. Man, I loved that game.
Nintendo has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming DLC for Mario Kart 8 which titles my nostalgia taste buds something chronic as the video shows off another new track, the Excitebike Arena. This arena is a simple oval track which includes a series of dirt-bike jumps lovingly inspired by Excitebike. Fortunately it isn’t as simple as that as the track has a unique twist.
Just like Excitebike, the Excitebike Arena is randomly generated each time a race starts with the layout of each jump being completely different. This will completely throw off those of you who learn the perfect racing line and will require them to actually take note of the track head of them.
The Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 is set to launch in November and includes Link, Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach as playable characters, will feature eight tracks: four brand new ones and four retro ones, and a handful of new vehicles that you’ll be able to get behind the wheel of.
Nintendo released another trailer last week showing off the Yoshi Circuit as well as a closer look at Tanooki Mario which you can see here.
