Earlier this week Spike TV host Geoff Keighley revealed that there’ll be around a dozen new video game announcements at The Game Awards 2014 this week which at the time we presumed would come from both the Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft camp, but now, according to marketing boss Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft will have nothing new to announce at the event.. Here’s looking forward to a bunch of PlayStation 4 and Nintendo announcements then..
The end of the year is always a good time for developers to squeeze out some final game announcements and The Game Awards is usually the time to do so. Many expected a handful of announcements to come for all platforms but now it seems the stage is left open for Sony and Nintendo to announce some new things, though Nintendo tend to announce new things during their own Nintendo Direct broadcasts, so if we assume Nintendo stick to their usual method of doing things, there could be a total of 12 new PlayStation announcements this year.
In reply to many gamers on Twitter, Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said, “Since many have asked we are not planning any new game announcements @thegameawards. Looking forward to watching a great show however.” There’s always the possibility that he’s pulling the wool over our eyes and Microsoft will come out with a surprise announcement, but that seems unlikely.
So far we’ve heard that Metal Gear Solid Online is being premiered at the event as well as new footage from PlayStation exclusives, Bloodborne and The Order: 1886 are expected to be shown at the event. The Game Awards is being held in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 6 at 1am GMT.
