The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the first device in the series to offer a fingerprint scanner but the next generation could see a more iPhone 6-like version.
“Highly credible sources” told SamMobile that the GS6 will get rid of the GS5 swipe scanner and change it to the ones you find on the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus.
In order to use the GS5’s scanner, you had to swipe downwards from the screen to the home button but now you can simply place your finger on the button. This means the phone will register an entire fingerprint rather than just a section of it, like on the previous generation.
The iPhones and Huawei Ascend Mate 7 feature the non-swipe scanner but in order to make it work, the button is big enough for you to rest your finger comfortably. With this in mind, Samsung will increase the size of the home button on the GS6 to make it easier to place your finger.
SamMobile added that there is no current testing of new features for the scanner. However, we can expect the following apps, which were on the previous generation too: fingerprint unlock, private mode, pay with PayPal, verify with Samsung account and web sign-in.
