Over the past week we’ve seen a flood of images of what’s supposedly the upcoming HTC One M9 showing off the new device at all angles in surprisingly clear images, however they might not actually be HTC’s next flagship at all as @evleaks, Evan Blass, has confirmed that they’re nothing more than clever dummy handets planted by HTC themselves.
With HTC Jeff Gordon, the company’s Senior Global Online Communications Manager, teasing HTC’s future at the start of the year saying “If you’re an HTC fan, 2015 is going to blow your mind!” you’ve likely been pretty disappointed with the leaks of the HTC One M9 which point to nothing more than a refreshed device with a new camera and internals. But that might not be the case at all, in fact, what we’ve been seeing, according to Blass, have been nothing more than “clever plants.”
“Those of you who were disappointed that early leaks seemed to point to a ho-hum refresh — an M8s, as it were (to borrow from Apple’s off-year model nomenclature) — will be pleased to learn that all these in-the-wild photos and mocked-up case renders were indeed clever plants, and that the One M9 and its big brother look almost nothing like last year’s One M8,” Blass wrote in a blog post. “In fact, I’ll submit that while the two devices share similar design language (check out yesterday’s exclusive for a description), they look less like the M8 than the M8 looked like the M7; in other words, a pretty significant break from the past.”
So if you’ve all but dismissed HTC this year, I’d reconsider as HTC’s new device could in fact blow your mind.
