Dave Bautista, who you may have seen in last summer’s Guardians Of The Galaxy as Drax, has been cast in the Highlander reboot as Kurgan. Bautista is a profesional wrestler turned actor, a flow of career similar to that of Dwayne Johnson a.k.a The Rock. Yet, unlike Johnson, Bautista has taken up this villainous role, along with his also involvement in the new James Bond film Spectre as Mr Hinx.
The role of Kurgan was recently filled by Clancy Brown(more widely known as the voice of Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants) in Highlander(1986). Other casting news on the film has been quiet, Ryan Reynolds originally was slated to play the lead role of Connor MacLeod the immortal Scotsman but dropped out, and rumours surfaced of Tom Cruise to fill the role of Ramirez, previously played by Sean Connery. It’s all gone full circle.
With this news of Bautista being cast we can be sure to expect more casting news soon. Highlander is set to be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum(Iron Man, Punisher: War Zone) are also the credited screenplay writers. If Bautista lives up to his quality of the performance of Drax then Highlander will surely be something to keep an eye on. Bautista is looking to be in for a Villain role filled future and let’s hope it cements his place in movie history.
