This week news broke that Square Enix had filed a Trademark here in Europe for something called Lara Croft: Relic Run, and while no details were revealed, it sure sounds like a mobile title right? More specifically, an endless runner.
The trademark was filed on February 11 under goods and services spanning section nine, which contains “computer games software, computer games, video game software, games for mobile phones,” and all other manner of video-related stuff. The trademark also covered print materials and online entertainment services, which without going into too much speculation likely means that it’ll be a mobile game with online leaderboards.
Chances are, it’ll be the first – hopefully successful – mobile title for Lara, though she has previously already appeared on mobile with Lara Croft: Reflections, a free-to-play collectible card game which failed to gain any traction. It launched in December ’13 and was closed down in August ’14.
The original Tomb Raider also appeared on iOS, though that’s not a specific mobile release.
If it is a mobile title, I’m really hoping it isn’t an endless runner and is something a little more substantial, like Hitman GO but in the Tomb Raider universe, now that I’d like to see.
