I’m sure we all already knew this, right? Since Activision announced a new three-year development cycle for Call of Duty, which has Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games take three years to develop the next game in the series, we’d already assumed that Treyarch was next on the list?
Either way, whether you knew it or not, Activision has this week confirmed in an earning’s call that the next Call of Duty game will be made by Treyarch. And if you haven’t already heard the rumours, it could be World at War 2.
The first studio to take part in the three year cycle was Sledgehammer Games, which will then be followed by Treyarch, then finally, Infinity Ward. As Treyarch has already had two years to develop the game and it’s release expected to be in the October/November period this year, it’s likely we’ll have a big-reveal in May, as usual.
Recently Treyarch took to the stage at DICE to explain how Call of Duty Zombies almost never happened, and encouraged developers to take chances on innovation. Here’s hoping they’ve not just set themselves up to fall.
Treyarch is responsible for a number of Call of Duty titles, such as Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
