In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Geralt’s beard grows over time, thankfully there’s DLC to give him a shave.
I’ve seen games become more and more realistic over time, but dynamic beard growth? That’s a little too much attention to detail, right? Either way, according to German magazine Gamestar, who recently published an in-depth profile on the game with lots of tasty morsels of information, in amongst the news about difficulty levels, the cities you’ll be visiting, and cut-scenes, there was one snippet of information that was almost overlooked: “Geralt’s beard will grow over time.”
When asked about this growth in more detail, developers CD Projekt Red said: “The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations. The beard has several “states” and these states determine its length – the longest is really long but it’s not Gandalf-long.”
Fortunately for those who like to keep their characters prim and proper, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting free Beard and Hairstyle DLC which ultimately stops this Neanderthal beard growth. “When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time,” said CDPR.
So, while the game offers a touch of reality in your character growing as you play, for those who like things the way they want them, there’s DLC that’ll offer that.
