An international trailer has been released for the third instalment of horror movie franchise Insidious, Insidious Chapter 3.
Some might see the trilogy as another case of a production house flogging a dead horse horror movie, especially when Insidious Chapter 2 received a less than favourable 38% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite this Focus Features and Blumhouse will be releasing Insidious Chapter 3 to theatres on June 5th, with the third movie going back in time and acting as a prequel to the first and second chilling titles.
The movie centres around the characters of Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Whannell, who fans will recognise as the psychic team that chase down supernatural beings for the Lambert family in the first two movies.
This time the spooky entity is haunting a teenage girl, rather than the young son of a middle class family.
Many of the team that worked on the first two movies are returning for the third chapter, including producer Oren Peli and co-creator James Wan, so punters can expect the same cheap jump scares and chilling hauntings that was a crux of the first two titles.
Only time will tell whether this title will act as a reprise for the saga following the disappointment of the second chapter, however Insidious could follow the path of franchises such as Paranormal Activity, whose first offering was well received, before subsequent releases drew continually less favourable reception from both consumers and critics.
