An ultra immersive gaming experience that transforms your environment into a terrifying hellscape.
Ever wanted to experience the horror and fright of a haunted house in your own home? Well that’s what the developers of ‘Night Terrors’, an augmented reality horror game, are trying to do. The game is currently in development and is aiming to get funding for $70,000USD on IndieGoGo.
The premise of the game is simple, you use your iPhones LED as a light to guide you but you watch everything through the phone screen itself. The game’s algorithms calculate your house layout through an environment mapping process, all while you play the game.
Another interesting feature is that all the ghosts and monsters featured, are not CGI but are practical effects. According to the developer it’s so the effects can look more realistic through the phones camera. “With control over the devices LED, the lighting conditions of both element and environment can be manipulated to create a perfect, extraordinarily frightening match.”
It’s all rather impressive for a team of only 4 people and this kind of innovation for AR could help it grow into more than a gimmicky add-on for mobile phones and handhelds. There is currently no release date for the project.
