We all expected it and here it is. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is this year’s entry into Ubisoft’s blockbuster franchise, but can it overcome Unity’s shortcomings?
With Assassin’s Creed Syndicate leaking as early as December last year and a swath of information leaking before today’s livestream, not a lot has been left to the imagination. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is exactly what we all know it will be thanks to these leaks, it’ll be set in Victorian London, will feature the main protagonist Jacob Frye and his sister Evie Frye. It’s also worth noting that it’s being dubbed as an “epic single player adventure”.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 23 with the Windows PC version becoming available this autumn. It’s been developed for the first time by Ubisoft Quebec in collaboration with eight other Ubisoft studios. It’ll also be a single player-only affair as expected, which will likely make a lot of people happy especially after last year’s mishap.
The story, as we already know, will be set in Victorial London, during the Industrial Revolution. During this time there’s a definite gap between the poor and the rich, and as you’d probably expect, the Frye twins aren’t a part of the latter group. Players will take on the role of Jacob Frye and his sister Evie Frye, two Assassins raised to follow the Creed. They’re also the part of the criminal underworld as the leaders of a rebellious underground gang.
Jacob seems to be a brute, a hot headded rebellious leader of the gang, whereas Evie is a master of stealth and control. This will likely open up two different play styles with Jacob boasting more action packed gameplay, and Evie offering more tactical stealth gameplay of Assassin’s Creed games past.
According to Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will feature “the largest, most modern open world city ever created in an Assassin’s Creed game.” The fighting is also set to be more brutal than ever as the two battle it out not only against the Templars, but rival gangs looking to claim turf. Weapons in the game are set to include the already revealed brass knuckles, a kukri knife, a revolver, and the Assassin’s gauntlet. It’ll also include new mechanics such as grappling, zip-lining from roof to roof allowing for aerial assassinations, and of course, horse-drawn carriages and high-speed trains.
