If Unicode have their way, a new set of emoji might be coming, one of which involves bacon

People often mistake Apple as the company that are in control of emojis, I mean they were the first company to really make use of the little icons which are now used to express feelings rather than just typing it out, but it’s actually Unicode – a nonprofit organisation which governs the Unicode Standard – and they’re looking to introduce a bunch of new icons into the mix.

Unicode is recommending 38 new emojis to be included in version 9.0, which if Apple and Google can sort their self out, will also be brought to iOS and Android if approved. Of course, over 250 emojis were previously suggested for version 7.0, but we’re yet to actually see any of them being implemented just yet. Of course, of these suggestions none of them could make the cut, though we’re all hoping so.

The recommendations come as part of suggestions requested by the Internet, and includes icons such as bacon, sharks, a lying face, two fist-bump options, a potato (???), and a dancing man, among others.

These suggestions come just as Unicode 8.0 is about to debut which is set to bring more emoji suggestions to the table such as tacos, a nerd face, a thinking face, some new sport images, and religious images. Though we’re all still waiting for the middle finger emoji to be included in iOS and Android..
