With most of The Simpsons cast signing on for another two years securing Season 27 and 28 of the series, one cast member won’t be there

This morning Harry Shearer, who you’ll probably know best as Mr. Burns, Smithers, Ned Flanders, and various other characters from the long-running TV show, announced that he won’t be returning to the series stating that the show will go on without him. It’s already been confirmed that Season 27 is in production without Shearer.

The news first surfaced over on TMZ where they claimed that attempts to renew the cartoon for the 27th and 28th season were being held up by Shearer, though details as to why are unclear. Unfortunately as of this morning, he called it quits:

Simpsons executives, Matt Groening, Al Jean and Brooks confirmed the news, releasing a statement that read:

“Harry Shearer was offered the same deal the rest of the cast accepted, and passed. The show will go on and we wish him well. Maggie took it hard.”

As for the characters that Shearer is leaving behind, they won’t be killed off, instead Shearer will be replaced “with the finest voiceover talent available”.
