A brief summary of three strange TMNT crossovers: Power Rangers in Space, Savage Dragon, and Ghostbusters!

Here’s something a little strange: three crossovers the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) have participated in – spanning TV AND comics. That’s more bang for your buck for sure.

Power Rangers In Space

Remember Power Rangers in Space? It was the season of the Power Rangers that was supposed to be its last, due to dwindling ratings, fan feedback and most importantly, declining toy sales. So production company, Saban, were trying to get the Power Rangers live action magic to work again. Cue VR Troopers and Big Beelteborgs, but of which didn’t go past season 2 down to there being a lack of Japanese action footage. Enter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.

The infamous live action Turtles series which carried on from the third film which hugely criticised the added Venus, the female fifth turtle. It didn’t make it past the first season, as the 90s re-energised show failed to take hold with its juvenile sensibilities.

After the Turtles are turned evil by the Power Rangers arch nemesis, the crossover produced an episode which most fans believe is the most cringe-worthy episode of the Power Rangers ever. That’s saying something. Most may not know of the other sort of Power Rangers and Turtles crossover in the comics, which sees the Turtles attacking a group of actors on the set of their Power Rangers themed TV show, all to retrieve a mystic amulet.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Savage Dragon

Who is Savage Dragon? A humanoid dragon who is a police officer. That’s who. When the dragon who is savage heads to New York to track down a monster, who should he meet? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the ultimate green team up.

You’ll notice these dudes are much closer to their original comic counterparts, with their red masks and slightly more uniform personalities.

Ghostbusters and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Two 80s icons come crashing together as the heroes in a half shell meet the Ghostbusters, after the Turtles are accidently transported to the Ghostbusters universe and find an evil spirit from their world is giving the Ghostbusters a real hard time. A great break from all the dark grit of the IDW going on.
